A central first aid station improves response time and demonstrates compliance with workplace safety practices. Use this checklist to set up an effective station.

workplace safety

Step 1 — Select the Right Location

Choose a visible, accessible area close to high-traffic zones. The station should be away from heat and moisture and near staff who are trained in first aid.

Step 2 — Install a Reliable Container

Use a durable, labeled container such as the Empty First Aid Box with Green Cross. Mount it at eye level so it’s easy to access during an emergency.

Step 3 — Stock the Station

  • Basic wound care supplies (bandages, gauze)
  • Antiseptics and disposable gloves
  • Cold packs and splints (if required)
  • Emergency contact card and first aid manual

Step 4 — Assign & Train Staff

Designate first aid officers and schedule regular training. Keep a visible list of trained responders near the station and update it after each training session.

Step 5 — Maintain & Audit

Perform quarterly audits, and document each inspection in a maintenance log. Link to the restock guide: How Often Should You Restock a First Aid Kit?.
